CHRISTIAN FAITH FORMATION

CURSILLO AND RENEWAL MINISTRIES

Cursillo is a three-day retreat which brings together a diverse group to share the richness of worship and to broaden appreciation for the Episcopal Church. Lay people conduct the weekend with two or three clergy members serving as spiritual advisors. EDUCATION FOR MINISTRY (EFM)

Every baptized person is called to ministry, but it can be difficult to know how to carry out that ministry. The Education for Ministry (EFM) program provides a theological education program for lay persons to support their faith and teach them to express that faith in day-to-day events. The curriculum covers study of the Old and New Testaments, church history and theology. Sessions include prayer, discussion of assigned readings, and a time for theological reflection, examining issues, texts, and questions from the perspectives of church tradition, culture, our actions and our personal beliefs. EFM is a four-year program developed by The University of the South; however participants only commit to a year at a time.  EFM at Holy Trinity meets on Monday nights from 7-9:30 p.m., from September through May.  Contact: Jean Reid, jeanr98@bellsouth.net

KAIROS:  “I was in prison and you visited me." ~Matthew 25:36

Kairos comes from Greek meaning "God's Special Time" or "in the fullness of time".  Through this Diocesan Prison Ministry, Holy Trinity parishioners can “encourage, assist and equip the Church to respond to the pastoral and sacramental needs of the incarcerated, their families, ex-offenders, victims and those who work with the incarcerated, as directed and empowered by the Holy Spirit.”  Contact Fred Cantrell, fred_cantrell@yahoo.com  or Wayne Childs, rwchilds1@yahoo.com.

FR. JEREMY HOLE'S BOOK CLASS

For over 25 years, Jeremy’s book group has met at 9:15 Sunday mornings in the parish library to discuss books on a wide range of topics chosen by the group.  The books stimulate discussions—led and aided by Fr. Jeremy’s extensive biblical knowledge and gentle guidance.  The books need not be purchased or read for anyone to participate.  All, especially newcomers, are welcome to come in for a book, for a month, or for a lifetime of stimulating conversations in Christian community.

LECTIONARY DISCUSSION GROUP

Each Sunday morning at 9:15 in Room 124, parishioners gather to read, question, discuss, and seek a deeper understanding of the day’s Scriptural passages. Each person has the opportunity to cultivate “an inquiring and discerning heart” (BCP p. 308). Copies of the Lectionary readings and study Bibles are provided. Please join us. Contact:  Fr. George Holston, george.w.holston@gmail.com

WEDNESDAY BIBLE STUDY

This class is an in-depth study of Holy Scriptures and is open to all.  No preparation is necessary as each class is self-contained. Those interested in a stimulating reading of the Bible meet every Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the parish library (September—May).  Come and bring a friend.  Contact the parish office, 352-372-4721 or office@holytrinitygnv.org
