KIDS IN CHURCH
Jesus said: “When you welcome even a child because of me, you welcome me.”
Mark 9:37
Contemporary English Version
Jesus welcomed children. And so do we.
“Let the children come to me, and don’t try to stop them!” Jesus said. ①
At Holy Trinity we say, “Amen to that!”
We love having children in church. They really liven up the place. Plus, the best way for children to learn how to go to church is by actually going to church regularly!
Yes, children have shorter attention spans and oodles of energy. But they also have a keen curiosity and natural sense of wonder — so what they see and hear in church can make a lifelong impression on them.
So, some practical tips:
Sit up front where your children can see the altar action clearly.
Explain in hushed whispers what’s going on.
Let them bring a favorite stuffed animal, book, or other quiet pastime.
If they fuss, take them for a break in the nursery, a walk in the courtyard, or a tour of our colorful stained glass windows to calm them.
Back up regular churchgoing with daily prayer at home, so that your children grow to understand that God is part of their lives every day.
We look forward to seeing you and your children in church!
