BAPTISM & EUCHARIST
Wash! Be clean! Taste and see how good the Lord is!
Isaiah 1:16 and Psalm 34:8
Common English Bible
In water and bread and wine, Jesus meets us where we are.
Baptism and the eucharist are our lifelines to Christ Jesus at Holy Trinity.
Baptism is our adoption into God’s family, the church. In that ritual washing with water, we bond with Jesus his Son, which makes us God’s children too:
“You were all baptized into Christ, and so you were all clothed with Christ. This shows that you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” ①
The eucharist is the family meal of God’s church. In its bread and wine, Jesus becomes food and drink to nourish our kinship as his followers:
“We give thanks for the cup of blessing, which is a sharing in the blood of Christ. And the bread that we break is a sharing in the body of Christ. Because there is one loaf of bread, we who are many are one body, because we all share that one loaf.” ②
In baptism and the eucharist, Jesus’ life and ours become interwoven.
